Our Story

The groundwork for this coalition started behind the scenes with under-represented individuals and DEI champions on the frontlines who are working to make the outdoors a more inclusive space. This coalition has been and will continue to be designed and pursued in close partnership with these key experts who are actively work together to make the outdoors a more inviting place through education, inclusion, equity, and action. 

Our members come from across the recreation spectrum  – from RVing to boating, to campground managers and service providers and everything in between.

While we may assume the outdoors is enjoyed equally by all, the truth is that People of Color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and marginalized people of various backgrounds, faiths, and abilities comprise a disproportionately low number of those who enjoy the outdoors.

Why? Because of a lack of resources and the inherent and justified fear of and experiences with discrimination – and even violence – from others at the places they purchase gear and the places they go to participate in outdoor recreation activities.
